Catching Fire

Just a word about the second book in The Hunger Games series: AMAZING. I've not been that engrossed in a book in a very long time. I read 380 pages in a day. I had other things going on that day and still managed to do them even while reading!

  1. Never heard of this series...is it about the lack of eating?

  2. John, it imagines what life would be like in North America if the current governments fell. The author says that a series of natural disasters and wars lead to a corrupt government in which the people barely have enough to live on. District 13 has an uprising, and the government destroys the district. And then, to teach a lesson to the remaining 12 districts, every year one boy and one girl from each district are pulled together and forced to fight to the death. Most of the violence is not described, but it is meant to disturb the reader. Katniss Everdeen is the main character and the books are told from her perspective. I was surprised that I enjoyed it given the grim story line.
